How to Use Pinterest to Plan Your Family Trip

There is so much that goes into planning a family trip. From choosing the destination, where to stay, what to do, designing a family friendly itinerary, the list goes on. Pinterest is my favourite tool because it provides so much inspiration information, making it the most systematic way to plan your dream family trip.

Pinterest boards make it so easy to find the information back when you are ready to use it. You can save inspiration photos, travel guides and tips to different categories to help you plan and organise your trip. Here’s how to use Pinterest to plan your next family trip.

Why Pinterest is Great for Family Travel Planning

Pinterest is the digital equivalent to an old-fashioned mood board or a folder filled with ideas and information. On this platform you can collate ‘pins’ saved from websites or blogs to different ‘boards.’

Pinned photos are linked to relevant information. So if you found a pin for “Ways for Families to Save on Travel Accommodation” it will direct you to the relevant web page.

You can use Pinterest to build up a portfolio of travel photos, guides and tips to refer back to when you finally get to go on your dream family holiday. You can also upload your own photos to the platform and follow people with similar interest to you.

Easy to Plan a Family Trip with Friends using Pinterest Group Boards

One of my favourite features to use for travel planning is Pinterest Group Boards. This is particularly useful when planning a family holiday with friends.

Create a board and add your friends as contributors to easily share inspiration and information that you find. It is also a great way to get an idea of your friends travel expectations and get everyone excited for your upcoming holiday.

Creating Dream Boards

On Pinterest, you have the ability to make unlimited boards to plan all of your dream family holidays. You can create boards for different topics and destinations, and then simply type in a keyword to discover an endless amount of information and pretty pictures!

Save your favourite results to the relevant boards and refer back to them as needed.

I always love doing this for each of my dream destinations. I have different boards for places like Bali, New Zealand and Sri Lanka filled with tips to use when I’m ready to plan that trip.

Choose a Family Holiday Destination

Choosing where to go on your family holiday will depend on many things. This includes your travel goals, dates and timeframe, your style of travel and your budget. You can use my Start Here page to look at each of these in more detail.

Pinterest is a great tool to help you choose your family holiday destination. You can use the search bar to type in “family travel destinations” along with other keywords that suit your family, such as ‘budget”, “Australia”, or “winter” just for example.

This type of search on Pinterest will result in lots of different options for your family holiday, just as it would in a Google search. However on Pinterest your results are filled with pretty images and relevant blog posts, which are better for planning your next trip.

Once you have chosen your travel destination, there are still so many aspects of a trip that need to be planned. One of the great things about Pinterest is that you can create several different boards to cover different aspects of your trip. Alternatively, you can use the ‘board sections’ feature to organise your pins even more.

How to Use Pinterest Board Sections for Travel Planning

To do this you might have a board called “Bali Family Holiday” and as sections under this board you might have “Bali Accommodation,” “Bali Cafes” and “Bali Things to Do.” This makes it easy to find back the details for each aspect of your trip!
